Learn how to decode the electricity plans that save the most for high summer usage homes!
It's hard enough to keep your energy bills low, especially with summer temperatures on the rise. So imagine how hard it could be for high energy usage homes? Home business owners, cutting edge tech users, and others could see their bills spike unless they act now. But can high-energy homes cut their bills down to size with better rates than AEP Ohio? Let's compare the plans from our electric suppliers to find the best solution for high usage homes in Zanesville.
How Shop For High Usage Electric
Right now the AEP Ohio PTC rate is 10.97 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). That means that using 1500 kWh in each month costs about $164.55 in supply charges. And this September AEP Ohio PTC rates may rise.
If you shop rates today, then you'd find several third party electricity rates that beat the PTC. However, some of these plans come with a monthly recurring charge (MRC). This extra charge is added on top of your per kWh rate. And if you use the Ohio average of 846 kWh per month, your savings won't be very much.
But, high energy usage homes may be able to offset the MRC and save big. Here's the formula we'll be using for our rate comparison:
Energy usage in kWh x per kWh rate + MRC. (We'll be using 1500 kWh.)
Then divide that result by the usage to see the full price per kWh.
Shop Lowest Electricity Rates
The Clearview Energy ClearGuarantee12Plus plan charges only 9 cents per kWh with a $19.99 MRC. At 1500 kWh, the monthly supply charge runs about $154 per month. Using our formula, that works out to about 10.33 cents per kWh total. Not only does this beat PTC rates, but Clearview Energy customers can also find greater value with the shopping and dining discounts from their rewards program.
You might also consider the APG&E True Classic 12 plan. It charges 9.5 cents per kWh with a $16.99 MRC. This means paying a monthly supply charge of about 159.49 (about 10.63 cents per kWh with our formula). This beats PTC rates by about $5 and may save you even more if PTC rates rise this winter.
In contrast, you could also lock in with the Constellation11 Month Home Power Plan. This plan charges 11.3 cents per kWh with no MRC, which equals a monthly supply charge of about $169. While current PTC rates do beat this rate, Constellation sends out regular energy usage emails to help you track your energy savings goals.
Finally, the Xoom Energy SureLock 12 plan charges 11.9 cents per kWh with no MRC. This equals a monthly supply charge of about $178 for 1500 kWh of energy. While this plan also doesn't beat PTC rates, Xoom Energy customers can find more value with the shopping, dining, and travel discounts from their rewards program.
