Compare Best Summer Electric Plans for High Usage Homes

Find Best Summer High Usage Deals

Ohio homes with high summer usage rates can find cheap plans with electric rates that really do beat the PTC rate!
Learn how to decode the electricity plans that save the most for high summer usage homes!

It's hard enough to keep your energy bills low, especially with summer temperatures on the rise. So imagine how hard it could be for high energy usage homes? Home business owners, cutting edge tech users, and others could see their bills spike unless they act now. But can high-energy homes cut their bills down to size with better rates than AEP Ohio? Let's compare the plans from our electric suppliers to find the best solution for high usage homes in Zanesville.

How Shop For High Usage Electric

Right now the AEP Ohio PTC rate is 10.97 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). That means that using 1500 kWh in each month costs about $164.55 in supply charges. And this September AEP Ohio PTC rates may rise.

If you shop rates today, then you'd find several third party electricity rates that beat the PTC. However, some of these plans come with a monthly recurring charge (MRC). This extra charge is added on top of your per kWh rate. And if you use the Ohio average of 846 kWh per month, your savings won't be very much.

But, high energy usage homes may be able to offset the MRC and save big. Here's the formula we'll be using for our rate comparison:

    1. Energy usage in kWh x per kWh rate + MRC. (We'll be using 1500 kWh.)
    2. Then divide that result by the usage to see the full price per kWh.

    Shop Lowest Electricity Rates

The Clearview Energy ClearGuarantee12Plus plan charges only 9 cents per kWh with a $19.99 MRC. At 1500 kWh, the monthly supply charge runs about $154 per month. Using our formula, that works out to about 10.33 cents per kWh total. Not only does this beat PTC rates, but Clearview Energy customers can also find greater value with the shopping and dining discounts from their rewards program.

You might also consider the APG&E True Classic 12 plan. It charges 9.5 cents per kWh with a $16.99 MRC. This means paying a monthly supply charge of about 159.49 (about 10.63 cents per kWh with our formula). This beats PTC rates by about $5 and may save you even more if PTC rates rise this winter.

In contrast, you could also lock in with the Constellation 11 Month Home Power Plan. This plan charges 11.3 cents per kWh with no MRC, which equals a monthly supply charge of about $169. While current PTC rates do beat this rate, Constellation sends out regular energy usage emails to help you track your energy savings goals.

Finally, the Xoom Energy SureLock 12 plan charges 11.9 cents per kWh with no MRC. This equals a monthly supply charge of about $178 for 1500 kWh of energy. While this plan also doesn't beat PTC rates, Xoom Energy customers can find more value with the shopping, dining, and travel discounts from their rewards program.

Choose Best High Usage Electric Rate

Currently, the best high usage deal to lock in is with Clearview Energy. The low rate beats current PTC rates even with the MRC added on top. Best of all, the plan comes packed with a rewards program that could fetch you even more savings. Still, other plans may be better choices for low to average energy usage homes.

Best Columbus Providers For Cheapest Electricity

Shop the cheapest electricity plans in Columbus before AEP hikes its PTC rate again on July 1!
The AEP Ohio PTC rate rises again July 1! Shop the cheapest electricity plans now to lock in rates that beat it!

Summer is right around the corner and that means you might crank up the AC. But that means throwing good money down the drain for many Ohio energy shoppers. Right now, you could cut down on your AEP Ohio energy bills if you shop for the cheapest electricity in Columbus. All you need to do is compare the best electric supplier apples to apples. So, let do that with a look at four of the cheapest providers for Columbus electricity.

    Compare AEP Ohio PTC Rates

You might be wondering how much you pay if you stick with PTC rates? Right now, AEP Ohio customers pay 10.12 cents per kilowatt-hour (kWh). If you compare this to Ohio's 846 kWh monthly energy usage average, this means an $85 monthly supply charge. However, PTC rates are set to rise by about 1 cent per kWh to 10.96883 cents per kWh on July 1. This could raise your average supply charge to $93 a month!

That sounds like a lot of money, but Columbus energy shoppers have some great 3rd party options.

    Shop Cheapest Columbus Electricity Providers

While shopping for the cheapest energy plans around, you might catch some of the plans from APG&E. Their True Classic 12 plan charges 9.1 cents per kWh with a $14.95 MRC for 12 months of service. This averages to about a $91 monthly supply charge ($2 less than July PTC rates). On the other hand, you might lock in with the True Simple 7 plan, which charges 9.3 cents per kWh for 7 months of service. This plan equals a monthly supply charge of about $79 ($14 less than July PTC rates). On top of this, APG&E offers further value with shopping and dining discounts via their rewards program.

You could also save with the Public Power Electric 12 Month Fixed Rate WITH MRC plan. This plan charges 9.3 cents per kWh with a $14.95 MRC, which equals about $93 in supply charges. While this matches the July PTC rate, it's important to remember that PTC rates tend to rise during the winter. So this plan could beat winter rates in 2027.

    Best High Usage Electricity Rate

Most Ohio homes are using a little over 1.2 to 1.5 kilowatts at any given time. But if you own a larger home and have an EV that you're charging and all-electric appliances, your demand could be a lot more. If so, then you need some relief from high bills. The Clearview Energy ClearGuarantee12Plus(high usage) plan charges 9.1 cents per kWh with a $19.99 MRC for high usage. True, using an average of 846 kWh under this plan is dismal; you'd pay about $97 for supply vs $92 with the AEP PTC rate. But, at a higher usage of 1500 kWh, you'd would pay only about $156 with the Clearview Energy plan versus $164 on the AEP PTC rate. So the more you use, the more you can save.

Plus, Clearview Energy customers get even more value by taking advantage of the shopping and dining discounts from their rewards program.

    Shop Now For Cheapest Rates
