AEP Energy Resources
AEP Energy is the retail electricity and natural gas arm of American Electric Power. AEP ranks among the nation's largest generators of electricity and is the nation's largest electricity transmission system with major supply infrastructures in Texas, Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, Tennessee, Indiana, Michigan, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Arkansas and Louisiana.
In 2012, AEP began to make major efforts towards expanding into the realm of retail energy with purchases of Blue Star Power in Illinois, as well as plans to pursue retail energy sales in Texas and Ohio. It is expected they will continue to expand into the retail natural gas and electricity markets across the United States.

I have not had any problems with this company — Redkimber317 from Nescopeck PA
I have been with AEP for 24 months.
Very simple manage your utility Bill's and length of time on contracts. I just locked in for 12 months more for .059 per kwh. I keep an eye on my contract expiration and renew everytime the rates drop. If you do not manage and you go out of contract you get market rates. — 410 Js from Pasadena MD
If you like the ability to check your account online, contract start and end date, contract rate, usage history, compare your usage to past history. Renew with comparisons to other contracts and provide decent rates. Not sure what you would not like ? If you like 24/7 online access and if you really want to talk to someone a customer service line. Good company for decent rates and account access. — Ray from Philadelphia PA

The title says it all. The website is good, the billing processes are good, customer service is okay, etc. The only downside is, that the power lately goes out monthly, usually for four+ hours. When you work from home, that is a non-starter.

We have been in Athens, OH for 2 years now. It feels like we are living in a developing country where there are regular power outages. So far we have had over 4-5 power outages, with one of the outages for over 24 hours in freezing winter weather. Their prices are ridiculously high. We were paying $178/month, and all at once we went up to $360/month and it is not because of wattage usage but because of services in our area. Do not recommend AEP at all.

I used their chat feature to try to work out payment arrangements. The responder gave me a few canned responses. I needed clarification. I was not rude but she hung up the chat before I could rephrase my question. I am thinking the way that she did it, they must be told that it is okay to hang up on people. That actually was my last question so had she answered it, I would not be here but it was really shocking to be typing and the next thing you know, the chat closes. I could have started another chat but if you are having problems paying your bill, I guess it is acceptable for the chat reps to hang up on customers.
